                                                                                                   MILITARY HISTORY

 

 

For over 300 years, Britain has been a stable sovereign state and has been the envy of the rest of the world.

 

During the 19th Century, Britain built her Empire upon trade and by colonising large parts of the globe. By the beginning of the 20th Century, Britain’s Merchant Navy was one of the biggest in the world and the Royal Navy was unquestionably the world’s strongest and most powerful maritime force, created to defend our island nation and to protect our Empire interests and shipping routes.

 

In two World Wars, Britain has gone to the aid of a beleaguered nation, despite exposing herself to inherent dangers and together with our Allies, we have maintained a free world.

 

Military history has, therefore, shaped what we are today and while many things have changed in our modern world, and new threats are with us, it is important to maintain our military heritage. Lessons learned from the past will determine what we do today and in the future and will provide inspiration to those who follow
